A few words: Char Aznable is a fictional character created by Yoshiyuki Tomino an intended as one of the main antagonists of his well-known work Kidou Senshi Gundam 0079. Although Char appears briefly seldomly in the original and first serie, he gained the love of all fans for his incredible charisma and for his ruthless ability in battles. He is nowadays potraied as the most famous Gundam character ever and he has become the symbol of the saga itself. Char also appears in Tomino's later works, such as the Gundam's sequel Kidou Senshi Z Gundam, the movie Char's Counterattack and the recent Z Gundam related trilogy of movies.
Although he is a completely original character, Char's name was inspired by the well-known french singer Charles Aznavour who was really famous back in the 70s in Japan, and the red color of Char's suites is probably a reference to one of the greatest pilots of World War I, Manfred von Richthofen also known as the Red Baron.
Char remains one of the most loved character ever, at least in the Japanese community as he reaches the same fame of Dr Spock or Darth Vader. His success is due not only by his exceptional ability in strategy, tactics, piloting and commanding in general, but especially by his tormented life. Char isn't really perfect and he pays a lot his mistakes by loosing people important to him, his power and position but not his dignity. he is an example of integrity, although in a particular perspective, since he always follows his own ideals, and it isn't implied that those beliefs are all right, but neither all wrong. He is determined and he doesn't really care for the mean because the goal is what he really tends to achieve.
